The 30th Gratiaen Prize won by Yudhanjaya Wijeratne & Chiranthi Rajapakse. The winner of the bi-annual H.A.I Goonetileke Prize for Translations was Manel Eriyagama.

The Shortlist for the 2023 Gratiaen Prize were Isurinie Anuradha Mallawaarachchi for ‘Flowers Teach Me to Let Go’, Chiranthi Rajapakse ‘Keeping Time & Other Stories’, Shirani Rajapakse for ‘Samsara’ and Yudhanjaya Wijeratne for ‘The Wretched and the Damned’.


The 30th edition of the Gratiaen Prize, which is considered the most prestigious literary award in Sri Lanka for creative writing in English, is currently underway. The Gratiaen Trust, established in 1992 by the acclaimed novelist Michael Ondaatje, is responsible for overseeing the prize. The Trust, with the generous support of the John Keells Foundation as its primary sponsor, aims to acknowledge and nurture English creative writing and literary translations by writers residing in Sri Lanka.
