Symbol of Faith and Friendship: Thai Devotees gift Buddha Statue to Sri Lanka
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok is pleased to announce the ceremonial handover of a seven-foot-tall Buddha statue to the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Thailand, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, at Wat Hatainaresh Temple.
The donation was made following a request by the Ambassador on behalf of Shri Indraramaya Buddhist temple, Mahadiwulwewa, Trincomalee, in Sri Lanka. Ven. Dr. Walmoruwe Piyarathana Thero, Director of the Faculty of Buddhism, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Thailand, coordinated this meritorious initiative.
The Buddha statue will be shipped to Sri Lanka and installed at the temple in Mahadiwulwewa, Trincomalee, for the benefit of devotees and the local community.
The statue was presented by the Venerable Abbot, Phrakruthavorndhammaphimon, with the generous contributions of a group of Thai devotees. This meritorious offering reflects the deep-rooted spiritual and cultural ties between Sri Lanka and Thailand, founded on the shared heritage of Theravada Buddhism and longstanding religious exchanges between the two nations.
The Embassy expresses its sincere appreciation to the Venerable Abbot and the donors for their generosity and goodwill, which further strengthens the bonds of friendship and religious harmony between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
