The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a stationery allowance of Rs. 6,000 each for 1.5 million schoolchildren for the 2027 academic year.

Under the programme, the funds will be directly credited to the bank accounts of parents of one million schoolchildren from families registered under the ‘Aswesuma’ welfare benefits programme.
Meanwhile, vouchers worth Rs. 6,000 each will be provided to another 500,000 children identified by the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education.
The school stationery allowance programme has been in operation since 2025. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has informed the Cabinet that the necessary arrangements will be made to implement the programme for the 2027 academic year.
