Sri Lanka Coast Guard Rescues 19 Tourists from Drowning in April

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard has rescued nineteen tourists, including both locals and foreign nationals, during a series of lifesaving operations carried out across coastal areas in April 2026.

According to the SLCG, the rescues were conducted through its network of sixteen lifesaving posts stationed at key tourist beaches around the island. Among those rescued were fourteen foreign nationals and five Sri Lankan tourists.

The individuals saved included both men and women aged between 5 and 62 years, representing countries such as Australia, France, Germany, India, Russia, and Switzerland.

The Coast Guard noted that its lifesaving units continue to play a critical role in ensuring beach safety, particularly during peak tourist seasons when coastal activity increases.

Since its establishment in 2010, the Sri Lanka Coast Guard has rescued a total of 2,629 الأشخاص, including 1,221 foreign nationals, as of 30 April 2026, reflecting its ongoing contribution to maritime safety and tourism protection in the country.

Officials urged beachgoers to remain vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines when entering the sea, especially in unfamiliar coastal areas.
