A group of 104 illicit emigrants from Myanmar fleeing to Malaysia by sea had been arrested by the Sri Lanka Navy when their multi-day fishing trawler lost its course and drifted away to the sea off Wenthalai island in the Sri Lankan waters yesterday.

The Sri Lanka Navy dispatched its team in the seas off Jaffna for a rescue operation after the trawler carrying  foreign nationals had met with an accident.

The group  included several elderly men and women and children. 

They  were brought to the Kankasanthurai naval base or further action.
