As minor flood situation remained in three districts of the country, the rice belt and the hydro catchment areas are beginning to see some showers, as per the data released by the Department of Irrigation.

The Rajangana area in the North Central province had received a rainfall of more than 20mm, while areas in and around Deduru Oaya had also received a rainfall more than 30mm.

Castlereagh received a rainfall of 13.5mm, Norton 26.4mm, Mausakelle 20mm and Canyon 19.8mm.

The catchment areas received only traces of rain as of Friday September 30 according to Department of Meteorology.

Minor floods in Galle, Matara and Kalutara Districts were reported with 5051 people belonging to 1275 families affected as per the data put out by the Disaster Management Centre. Minor floods was also reported from Dunamale in Gampaha District as the water level in the Attanagalu Oya was rising.

Landslide warnings were issued for eight districts namely Galle, Hambantota, Kandy, Matale, Matara, Kegalle and Ratnapura as the rainfall in these areas have exceeded 100mm.

Meanwhile the Department of Meteorology forecasted rains exceeding 50mm in the Western, Sabaragamuwa provinces, Galle, Matara and Puttalam District during the coming days. Strong winds which is expected to travel 50kmph were forecasted in North Central province,. North Western province, Batticaloa and Ampara Districts.
