Colombo (LankaXpress)– The newly elected Cabinet Ministers of Sri Lanka are set to be sworn in before President Anura Kumara Dissanayake November 18, at 10:00 a.m. at the Presidential Secretariat, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).
Political sources confirm that Dr. Harini Amarasuriya will be reappointed as Prime Minister despite Vijitha Herath garnering a record 716,715 preferential votes in the 2024 General Election compared to her 655,289 votes. Vijitha Herath, a prominent figure in the National People’s Power (NPP), is expected to assume the role of Minister of Foreign Affairs.
According to the sources, Cabinet would consist of no more than 25 members, following a scientific approach in the allocation of ministerial portfolios.
The NPP achieved a historic victory in the November 14 Parliamentary Election, winning a two-thirds majority with 159 seats. This marks a transformative moment in Sri Lankan politics, as the party ushers in a new era of governance.
President Dissanayake is scheduled to address the inaugural session of the 10th Parliament on November 21 at 3:00 p.m.
