The low-pressure area over South West Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify in to a depression during next two days. It is likely to move Northwestward towards the North-eastern coast of Sri Lanka.

Strong winds about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times over the Northern, Eastern, Uva and North-Central provinces due to the effect of the low-pressure area in the vicinity of Sri Lanka.

Fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some places in Northern, Eastern, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces.

Cloudy skies are expected over Northern, North-Central, North-Western and Uva provinces due to the low-pressure area over South Bay of Bengal.

Showers will occur at times in Northern, Eastern, Uva and North-Central provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the afternoon or night.

Fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some places in Northern, Eastern, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Wind speed will increase up to (55-65) kmph at times and showers or thundershowers can be expected in Central and South West Bay of Bengal and Eastern and Northern Sea areas of Sri Lanka.

Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Kankasanturai, Trincomalee & Batticaloa, Southwest Bay of Bengal (07N – 15N, 80E – 84E), until further notice.
• Those who are out at aforementioned sea regions are advised to return to coasts or moved safer areas immediately.
• Fishing and naval community are requested to be attentive to future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.
