Dr. Punsara Amarasinghe, a lecturer at the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

He has been taken into custody for allegedly making a false statement regarding the four Sri Lankans arrested in India over suspected links with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Dr. Amarasinghe had reportedly made the controversial remarks during a recent televised interview.

He has been ordered released on a personal bail of Rs. 1 million by the Fort Magistrate’s Court after he was produced before the court today.
