At least five individuals participating in a protest in front of the US Embassy in Colombo were arrested by the police.

The protest was organized by the ‘People’s Struggle Movement,’ aimed at voicing opposition to the United States of America’s support for Israel in the Israeli-Palestinian conflicts.

Tension escalated between the police and the protesters when a group attempted to burn a photo of the U.S. President.

The Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Narahenpita Police was injured during the incident and was subsequently admitted to the Police Hospital.

Initially, three protesters were arrested in connection with the incident. Later, two protesters, who entered the Kollupitiya Police station and behaved aggressively, were also taken into custody.

Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the detained protesters are currently held at the Kollupitiya Police Station.
