A total of 31 Sri Lankans who had been staying in Kuwait without visas for a long time and unable to return to Sri Lanka, were sent back to the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning under temporary flight permits arranged with the intervention of the Sri Lankan Embassy.

These Sri Lankans were registered at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Kuwait to return to Sri Lanka.

They arrived at the Airport at 06.16 a.m from Kuwait by SriLankan Airlines flight UL-230.

Among them there were three male and 28 female housekeepers.

In addition, 33 Sri Lankan domestic workers were sent to Sri Lanka from Kuwait on September 12. Nine among them were males and 24 were females.

Accordingly, during these two weeks, 64 Sri Lankans who had gone to work as domestic workers in Kuwait and had stayed there without visas, but were registered at the Sri Lankan Embassy, were sent back to Sri Lanka.

Most of them are residents of Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, Galle, Matara and Moneragala.

About 2,000 such persons are registered with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kuwait to be returned to Sri Lanka in this way, and they will be sent to Sri Lanka in groups in the future, said an embassy spokesman.
