Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed the health officials to vaccinate all those over the age of 30 in the Western Province before July 31. So far 60% of this age group in the Colombo District, 47% in Gampaha and 34% in Kalutara have been given the first dose.

The President expressed confidence that the required dose of AstraZeneca vaccine for the second dose would be available soon. Accordingly, the President instructed the health officials to make arrangements to give the second dose of Astrazenica in a systematic manner to all those who have been vaccinated. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended that a person receiving an astragalus vaccine receive a second dose within 45 weeks, according to Dr. Prasanna Gunasena, a member of the Special Committee for the Suppression of Covid.

With the commencement of vaccinations in hospitals since last Monday, it has been possible to administer the covid vaccine to a large number of people in a very short period of time. Steps have also been taken to continue this methodology throughout the island.

The President also emphasized the need to provide a high percentage of vaccinations in all parts of the country before September.
