Update – The total number of Coronavirus patients in Sri Lanka exceeded 200,000 mark as Sri Lanka records 2280 caseload today. The New Year Avurudu Cluster has exceeded 100,000 patients, with new detections. Coronavirus detections across Sri Lanka began to increase after the Sinhala and Tamil New Year and Avurudu holidays.

The total number of patients reached 201,534, out of which 166,132 had recovered and been discharged from hospitals. The death toll from the virus stands at 1656.

Sri Lankan health experts have issued a red alert and imposed islandwide travel restrictions till June 14 across the country after a rise in cases as a new variant of the coronavirus is rapidly spreading in the country.

According to Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, 3,410 new Coronavirus cases were reported on June 4. Among the positive cases identified, 3398 persons from the New Year COVID-19 cluster and 12 foreign arrivals currently in quarantine.

According to the Epidemiology Unit report a total of 201,534 COVID-19 cases have been reported and about 33,000 infected patients are being treated at hospitals, while 166,132 patients have fully recovered and been discharged from hospitals. Sri Lanka confirmed 48 COVID-19 deaths Friday, raising the total deaths to 1656.
