The Sri Lanka College of Cardiology (SLCC) says that the accused doctor over an incident of sexual abuse of a minor, is still a trainee in Cardiology and not a qualified Cardiologist. On that grounds he was not eligible to practice as a Cardiologist according to the existing law of the country. Therefore SLCC wishes to express its strong displeasure at the inaccurate media reporting and social media posts announcing him as a Cardiologist without confirming the details at the source.

SLCC wishes to clarify few points with regard to the recently reported incident of sexual abuse of a minor allegedly by several individuals.
1) The SLCC vehemently condemn the incident of sexual abuse involving a minor.
2) The SLCC strongly believes that due legal proceedings and appropriate legal actions should be taken against all the culprits who have committed such a crime.
3) The SLCC wishes to announce that the accused doctor is still a trainee in Cardiology and not a qualified Cardiologist.

On that grounds he was not eligible to practice as a Cardiologist according to the existing law of the country. Therefore SLCC wishes to express its strong displeasure at the inaccurate media reporting and social media posts announcing him as a Cardiologist without
confirming the details at the source. We earnestly request the media to give adequate coverage to this fact in order to allay any public mistrust this false information has potentially created regarding the conduct of qualified Cardiologists already practicing in the country.

Moreover it is always better to identify the accused by name right from the beginning of disclosure rather than categorizing under him or her a bigger group in order to prevent embarrassment to the rest of the members of the group.
4) The SLCC as a responsible professional organization strongly believes in the paramount importance of ensuring the highest standards of ethical and moral values from its members, and will continue to be committed to uphold them.
