94 deaths reported due to COVID-19 within 24-hours, stated the Department of Government Information. The Director General of Health Services confirmed that 94 deaths occurred on August 4 due to the COVID. This is the highest single-day confirmed deaths in Sri Lanka after June 11.

Among the dead are 49 males and 45 females. The majority of the deaths numbering 73 is of the people in the 60 years and above age group. According to the data reported by the Government Information Department, the total deaths due to Covid-19 since the pandemic began last March has now risen to 4821. Two females below 30 years age were among deaths.

About 497 coronavirus related deaths have been reported in Sri Lanka last 7 days. Sri Lanka reported 82 covid deaths for August 3, the second highest single day.

Among the 4821 deaths, the majority of the deaths are of the people in the over 60 years of age group. About 74.9% percent deaths are above age 60 years group. 23.8 percent are 30-59 and 1.23% are below the age of 30.
