Leasing companies must follow law when repossessing vehicles, police say

Sri Lanka Police Media Spokesperson and Director of the Police Media Division, ASP Fredrick Wootler, says both leasing companies and customers must comply with the law when repossessing / seizing leased cars, vehicles or equipment.

He said a leasing company may inform the nearest police station when it intends to repossess a vehicle, in order to ensure the process is carried out peacefully and without conflict between the two parties.

ASP Wootler further said that if a company uses third parties to unlawfully enter a customer’s premises or causes harm to the customer, those involved could face legal action.

He said that where a customer resists handing over a leased vehicle or equipment, the leasing company should seek a court order and proceed according to the law. (LankaXpress.com )
