74 deaths reported due to COVID-19 within 24-hours, stated the Department of Government Information. The Director General of Health Services confirmed that 74 deaths occurred on August 2 due to the COVID. This is the highest single-day confirmed deaths in Sri Lanka after June 11.

According to the data reported by the Government Information Department, the total deaths due to Covid-19 since the pandemic began last March has now risen to 4645.

Sri Lanka reported 74 covid deaths for August 2, the highest single day after Health Ministry changed the procedure on announcing COVID deaths. According to new procedure from June 15, death count to report in a day, the deaths that occur within 48-hour or 24 hours. Earlier COVID-19 deaths were reported in a single day which had taken place several days and sometimes, weeks or months ago. Under the previous procedure, 101 coronavirus related deaths added to the total death count, the highest single-day reporting on June 11.

About 450 coronavirus related deaths have been reported in Sri Lanka last 7 days. According to the data reported by the Government Information Department, the total deaths due to Covid-19 Since the pandemic began last March has now risen to 4645. Among the dead majority were males. Out of the 4645 deaths, over 2680 are male while over 1940 are females. The majority of the deaths are of the people in the over 60 years of age group. About 74.9% percent deaths are above age 60 years group. 23.8 percent are 30-59 and 1.23% are below the age of 30.
