The 7.9 magnitude earthquake that had occurred in the Tanimbar Islands Region, Indonesia has no threat to Sri Lanka, the National Tsunami Early Warning Centre (NTEWC) said.

They said that there is no threat to Sri Lanka at present.

The coastal areas of Sri Lanka are declared safe.

The public is further informed that this message is announced in consultation with the relevant national and international agencies.

According to the foreign media the earthquake struck Tanimbar region in Indonesia.

The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said the quake was at a depth of 97 kilometers (60.27 miles) below the earth’s surface.
