New officers recruited to Sri Lanka Foreign Service

Twenty newly-recruited officers to the Sri Lanka Foreign Service were welcomed to the Ministry by Foreign Secretary Aruni Wijewardane on June 11.

The Foreign Secretary highlighted the important role of the Sri Lanka Foreign Service (SLFS) and the special responsibilities of all officers as public servants.

She referred to the skills required in the modern world of diplomacy including the priority given to economic diplomacy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The statement added that the 20 new officers have been recruited to the SLFS through an open competitive examination and interview process and appointed by the Public Service Commission.

The newly-recruited officers will participate in the induction training programme conducted by the Bandaranaike International Diplomatic Training Institute (BIDTI) prior to taking up duties at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
