Irrigation Department says water levels of Kelani, Attanagalu Oya, Maya Oya, Kalu and Nilawala rivers are slowly rising and reaching minor flood situation. Major flood situation reports in Giriulla and Gurugoda Oya Holombuwa area. Minor flood situation reports in Thalagahagoda, Kitulgala, Baddegama, Dunamale, Badalagama and Millakanda areas.

As per the warning issued by the Irrigation Department for Maha Oya River Basin at 10.00 pm (2021.11.08), the river water levels at the upstream areas have been risen extensively. The water level at Giriulla River Gauging Station has been risen up to 8.94 m at 7:00 AM today. It is warned that there is a high possibility of occurring a Major Flood Situation in lowline areas of Maha Oya Valley situated in Alawwa, Diwulapitiya, Meerigama, Pannala, Wennappuwa, Negombo, Katana, Narammala and Dankotuwa D/S Divisions within next few hours.

The residents of the area and drivers of the vehicles running through those areas are requested to pay high attention in these regards in order to save valuable lives and public and private properties. The Disaster Management Authorities and District/ Divisional Administrations are requested to take necessary precautions in these regards.
