The low pressure area still persist in the south-east Bay of Bengal. It is likely to intensify further in to a depression during next 36 hours and move West-Northwestwards towards North Tamil Nadu, closer to North coast of Sri Lanka.

Under the influence of the aforementioned low pressure area, showers or thundershowers will occur at times over most parts of the island.

Very heavy showers about 150mm are likely at some places in Northern, North-central, North-western and Western provinces. Heavy showers above 100 mm can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Trincomalee district.

Strong winds up to (40-50) kmph can be expected over the island.

Sri Lanka Meteorology Department’s Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre issued strong winds alerts till November 10th for Northern, North-western, North-central and Western Provinces and Trincomalee, Galle and Matara districts.

National Building Research Organization NBRO issued landslides alert 1, 2 and 3 for 11 districts due to prevailing rainy condition. 

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
