Enhancement of the rainy weather condition in the land areas and windy condition in the sea areas around Sri Lanka can be expected during November 07th, 08th and 09th November, due to influence of the prevailing wind convergence zone in the vicinity of the island.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North- western and Northern provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. Very heavy showers above 150 mm can be expected at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy and Nuwara- Eliya district.

Heavy showers about 100 mm can be expected at some places in North-western and Northern provinces and in Matale, Galle and Matara districts during next 24 hours.

According to India Meteorological Department, a low pressure area is likely to form over south east Bay of Bengal. There are chances of intensification of the possible system and movement towards India’s north Tamil Nadu coast. The forecasted system is likely to intensify into a depression over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Sri Lanka around November 11. Some Meteorologists forecast the depression will become a Cyclone Jawad.

Irrigation Department says water levels of Dedaru Oya, Attanagalu Oya, Maya Oya, Kalu, Kelani, Bentara, Gin Ganga and Nilwala rivers are slowly rising and may reach minor flood situation if the rains continue. People living in river banks are requested to be vigilant.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
