Police arrested 1356 persons for violating quarantine regulations last 24-hour (June 14) the highest arrests in a single day. From October 30th, so far total 33,940 people arrested those who not wear face masks and those who not maintain the social distancing. 146 persons arrested in Matale area, 134 persons were arrested in Kandy area and 116 persons arrested in Kuliyapitiya area. The Tri-Forces and the Police Special Task Force (STF) has set up roadblocks at all provincial borders. Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said the arrested individuals are charged under the provisions of the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance and the Penal Code of Sri Lanka.

Health Officials say the new variant is rapidly spreading and number of YOUTHS infected are high, hence wearing a face mask is essential. Wearing mask and social distancing are mandatory in Sri Lanka, if violated Rs.10,000 fine & up to 6 month’s imprisonment.
