Foreign Affairs State Minister Tharaka Balasuriya has advised aspiring migrant workers not to travel with visit visas hoping to find employment in the Middle Eastern countries.

He advised the people to go to those countries after getting a proper work visa and employment.
HE said that the Foreign Ministry and the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) were in discussion on solving migrant worker issues.

He told the media that the Ministry had denied the accusations made against them for not taking action to bring the Sri Lankan migrant workers back from those countries, who went for foreign employment and were stranded in the process.

Referring to the issue of Sri Lankan migrant workers in Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), he said those people did not like to return to the country.

“The Foreign Ministry and the SLBFE are in a discussion to prevent such issues in future” he said.

Dubai and Oman have relaxed their laws to allow people to enter their countries with a visit visa which can be converted to a work visa after finding a job.

However, the State Minister advised people not to travel with visitor visas. He advised the people to go to those countries after getting a proper work visa.
