On the apparent southward relative motion of the sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 28th of August to 07th of September in this year. The nearest towns of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today (28) are Kovilan point and Mallakam (Jaffna District) about 12.11 noon.

Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is expected to increase up to ‘Caution’ level at some places in North-central, Uva and Eastern provinces and in Vavuniya and Mullaitivu Districts.

As the heatwave continues to grip the nation, health officials are urging caution, particularly among children, athletes, and those spending significant time outdoors. Temperature records of several districts projected to exceed 30°C. Trincomalee and Anuradhapura may soar to a scorching 36°C, while Ratnapura is set to reach 35°C. Jaffna , Kandy and Batticoloa temperature are expected at 33°C.
