Sri Lankans start sending Dollars #SriLankaDollarChallenge Hashtag Trending

With the resignation of Gotabaya Rajapaksa, many people have started sending dollars and other currencies to the island. Social Media #SriLankaDollarChallenge hashtag is now trending in Facebook and Twitter. Social Media users are posting with their deposit slips. Sri Lanka is currently facing a huge foreign currency issue.

Central Bank requests all migrant Sri Lankans to use only legal official banking channels to sending their earnings to Sri Lanka.

As per the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the country’s usable foreign reserves dropped to US$ 400 million in June 2022. When the current government took office in November 2019, the reserves were approximately US$7.5 billion.

Social Media users are posting with their deposit slips. One social media user tweeted saying ” As promised we will continue to do our best to the motherland” while another tweeted “My contribution towards #SriLanka and will continue to do so”.
