Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has sent his letter of resignation to the President stepping down from the Prime Ministerial post.
With Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa ceasing to hold office after submitting his resignation the Cabinet of Ministers stand dissolved.
