Sri Lanka Police, newly established unit “Special Waterborne Operations Squadron” carried out their first operation in Muthurajawela area using Jet Ski boats. 26 barrels of illicit liquor and Goda recovered during the operation. Recently 16 Police STF officers were trained by experts under the sponsorship of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Sri Lanka Powerboat Association.

The newly setup Special Water-Borne Squadron unit is expected to assist in curbing illegal activities related to water and reservoirs such as illegal sand mining, coral mining, gem mining, environmental pollution, forest destruction, smuggling and other crimes across the country.
