Issuance of passports which was temporarily halted due to a breakdown in the computer system will resume tomorrow (Nov. 09) at the head office of the Department of Immigration & Emigration in Battaramulla and all regional offices.
The Immigration & Emigration Department stated that the computer system failure is now rectified.
Following the breakdown, accepting applications for passports was also suspended until the system was restored.
Meanwhile, a heated situation was reported in front of the Immigration & Emigration Department earlier today as many people who had arrived to obtain their passports voiced their protest.
However, the officials of the department and police officers, who arrived at the scene, explained the situation and managed to send them away.
