Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha says that the heads of all schools must take measures to convene parents’ meetings within the first two weeks following the commencement of the new school term.

Premajayantha emphasized that the purpose of this is to strengthen the relationship between the parents and the class teachers.

“At the beginning of the year, the class teacher calls the parents to the school to brief them about the program for the year, the discipline of the children and how to maintain it. We will revise the circular so that once the new school term begins on February 19, parents’ meetings should be held in all government schools within the first two weeks. That’s how a proper relationship between the parents and the school can be maintained.”

“These things were interrupted in the past due to the Covid-19 pandemic which led to adverse effects. We need to bring this sector back to the previous level”, the Minister added.

Furthermore, the Education Minister assured that measures would be taken to make many structural changes in the sector under the education reforms program that is set to be implemented starting next year.
