11 persons dead while 40 others are injured after a passenger bus had collided on the Kotaleeya Bridge at Manampitiya and toppled into the river. Hospital sources say that 2 critically injured.
A bus travelling from Polonnaruwa to Kattankudy has collided on the Kotaleeya Bridge at Manampitiya and toppled into the river, Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said.
The people in the vicinity are currently working to rescue the people in the bus. Due to heavy darkness, rescue of the injured was difficult.
It is suspected that several passengers in the bus may have been swept away in the river and a team of divers is still trying hard to find them.
