A tourist, W. Douro Euan Edward, was fined Rs. 35,000 by Galle Addl. Magistrate Lakmini Vidanagamage after being found guilty of riding a motorcycle without a driving licence valid in Sri Lanka, without the motorcycle’s revenue licence, and without wearing a helmet.
The tourist had been arrested by Galle Fort Tourist Police while riding the motorcycle in the Galle Fort area. He was then handed over to the traffic branch of the Galle Police for further action.
The woman who hired the motorcycle to the tourist, Jayakodi Kankanamge Devika Yasara, was fined Rs. 25,000 for allowing an individual without a driving licence to ride the motorcycle.
