Expect over 150mm very heavy rains and strong winds 40-50 kmph in Sri Lanka

The prevailing showery condition over South-western part (Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts) of the island is expected to continue further.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts. Very heavy showers above 150 mm can occur at some places in Sabaragamuwa province and in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Heavy showers above 100 mm can occur at some places in Western province and in Galle and Matara districts too.

Several spells of showers will occur in Northern Province and in Anuradhapura and Hambantota districts. Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in Uva and Eastern provinces during the evening or night.

Strong winds ((40-50) kmph) can be expected at times over the western slope of the central hills, Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces and in Hambantota district.

Massive rainfall of 135mm reported in Kukuleganaga/ Palindanuwara(AWS) during last 24-hour period.

Water levels of Kalu Ganga reach minor flood level in Ratnapura. Many low level areas inundated.

Public requested to be in alert of a possible flood in and around Ratnapura City as river water of Kalu River in and around Ratnapura City area currently at the bankfull (Alert) level. Therefore, if any high rainfall is occurred in the catchment areas above Ratnapura tonight, there is a high chance of occurring a minor flood situation. General public is requested to be alert in this regards around Ratnapura.

Wind speed will be (30-40) kmph sea areas around the island. Wind speed can be increased up to (60-70) kmph in the sea area extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankasanturai and Mannar and in the sea areas extending from Galle
to Pottuvil via Hambanthota.
Wind speed can increase up to (55-65) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Galle via Colombo.

NBRO issued landslide early warnings for the Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, & Matara districts.
