Sri Lanka’s COVID death toll passed the 9000 mark with 194 COVID19 deaths confirmed. According to the Director General of Health Services these deaths had taken place August 30 and the total number of fatalities in Sri Lanka increased to 9185. 

August had already amounted to Sri Lanka’s worst month of the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of deaths as over 4700 coronavirus related deaths have been reported in Sri Lanka during August month. There were about 1400 OCID related deaths during July.

About 4700 coronavirus related deaths have been reported in Sri Lanka during August 1 to August 31. According to the data reported by the Government Information Department, the total deaths due to Covid-19 Since the pandemic began last March has now risen to 9185. Among the dead majority were males. Out of the 9185 deaths, over 5200 are male while over 3900 are females.

The majority of the deaths are of the people in the over 60 years of age group. 76% percent deaths are above age 60 years group. 22 percent are 30-59 and 1.02% are below the age of 30.
