The application deadline for the second phase of the ‘Aswasuma’ welfare benefit program has been extended until March 22, 2024, according to State Minister of Finance, Shehan Semasinghe.
Minister Semasinghe announced that the deadline extension was made to accommodate the influx of applications, with approximately 130,000 new applications already received. Additionally, there is a backlog of physical applications that need to be entered into the data system by the Divisional Secretariats.
Families who were unable to submit applications during the first phase or did not participate in the housing information census can apply during this new phase, as previously outlined by the Welfare Benefits Board (WBB). The second phase aims to extend benefits to approximately 2.4 million families.
