Necessary legal action will be taken in the next couple of days relating to the recent increase of the electricity tariff without his consent, Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) chairman Janaka Rathnayake said.

Addressing the media, he said legal action would be taken personally.

Following a visit to his office yesterday, he stated that the electricity tariff had been raised two weeks ago.

He said the electricity tariff was increased for the 5 million people with the lowest income and who use electricity units between 30 and 90. The tariff has been increased by 250% and is no longer valid.

The chairman stated that he will go to court spending from his pocket to bring justice for the low-income earners.
