Southern Province to reopen schools by October 15

Southern Province Education Ministry Secretary Ranjith Yapa says schools with less than 200 students in Southern Province will be reopened by October 15. Under this program 514 schools in the province will be reopened reports Lankadeepa news.

A technical committee comprising of health and education sector officials was entrusted to make an expeditious recommendation on the reopening schools which have less than 100 students.

Government is planning to re-open schools under four stages. 3884 schools will be reopened for students from Grade 1 to 5 under the first stage.

Sri Lanka Health Minister Dr. Keheliya Rambukwella earlier said that attention is being paid to start vaccinating children between the ages of 12-18 as soon as possible.
