While ordering to release Ven. Rajangane Saddharathana Thera on bail for allegedly making statements that harm religious co-existence in the country, the Colombo Fort Magistrate yesterday imposed a bail condition preventing the suspect thera from making any statements using foul language.

Magistrate Thilina Gamage ordered to release the suspect on two sureties of Rs.500,000 following 45 days incarceration for allegedly committing offences under International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights Act (ICCPR).

Meanwhile, the Magistrate observed that the alleged offence does not fall within the ambit of the ICCPR Act but charges against the suspect can be proceed under the Computer Crimes Act and Penal Code.

On May 28, Saddharathana Thera was taken into custody by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for making statements that could disrupt religious harmony in the country.
