Leave of all employees of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has been cancelled with effect from January 02, by way of a circular.
The communiqué, dated January 01, 2024, was issued by the Acting General Manager of the state-owned electricity supplier, Eng. (Dr.) Narendra De Silva.
It reads that according to the provisions of the Extraordinary Gazette No. 2363/02 published on December 18, 2023, on the instructions of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, has declared all services connected to the electricity supply as essential public services.
Taking this into account, it was decided that leave of all CEB employees be cancelled until further notice, Dr. De Silva explained.
However, in case of an urgent matter, the employees can take a leave, with the approval of an executive officer attached to the respective division or branch, he added.
On Tuesday (Jan.02), the Ceylon Electricity Workers’ Union (CEWU) announced that its members plan launch to a three-day trade union action starting today, to urge Power & Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera to withdraw the Bill to restructure the CEB.
