Sri Lanka’s healthcare sector is experiencing a shortage of drugs and essential medicines due to the economic crisis.

Health Ministry appointed a special official to coordinate maintain uninterrupted healthcare services and facilitate medicinal and equipment donations to Sri Lanka in order to overcome drug shortages and other challenges in the sector.

The relevant official will coordinate within relevant ministries and the private sector organizations, donor agencies, provincial and regional health authorities and professional colleges to maintain uninterrupted service provision during this challenging period, the Ministry said.

Accordingly, Director General of Health services Dr. Asela Gunawardena has issued a communique appointing Dr. Anver Hamdani as the coordinating officer on behalf of Ministry of Health to coordinate, facilitate and liaise with relevant stakeholders.
