Island wide program to provide Covid-19 immunization for children with special needs and chronic diseases commenced at the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital, Colombo this morning (24th September) under the patronage of Mrs Shiranthi Rajapaksa.

At the start, Pfizer vaccination is administered to children with special needs and chronic diseases aged 12 to 19 in the Colombo, Kurunegala and Anuradhapura districts and subsequently the program will be extended to all children Island wide.

The Ministry of Health has mandated the approval and full supervision of a pediatrician when administering vaccines to children with special needs and chronic diseases. Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella addressed the gathering participated by Major General Dr. Sanjeewa Munasinghe- Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Dr. Asela Gunawardena- Director General of Health Services, Professor Shaman Rajindrajith- the President of Sri Lanka College of Pediatricians and Dr Channa de Silva- Secretary of Sri Lanka College of Pediatricians.
