Sri Lanka Education Minister Prof G L Peiris says that there will be a meeting on May 12 to discuss about the re-opening of schools, pre-schools and universities. Minister further says government intends to maintain normal activities of the country despite COVID19 crisis. Minister Peiris says he will discuss with health authorities to decide on reopening schools. Currently all schools islandwide CLOSED. Special meetings will be held coming days to decide whether schools Sri Lanka open or close.  “We review the situation daily” minister further said. Officials are considering the situation and will announce the opening dates.

All schools islandwide CLOSED for coming week starting May 3rd to May 7th – Education Ministry says.  “We review the situation daily” minister further said. Officials are considering the situation and will announce the opening dates. All schools in Sri Lanka closed on 27 April. The decision was taken as a precaution to prevent school children from being infected with the virus. Parallel to that All Catholic schools, all Anglican schools will also be closed till April 30.

Special meeting will be held coming days to decide whether schools Sri Lanka open or close. Joseph Stalin, General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union raise concern over government decision over opening schools under 50% capacity. It is reported that several school students, teachers and Principals tested positive for coronavirus island-wide. Earlier Sri Lanka Education Minister said government considering to reopen schools on My 3rd.

Minister of Education, Prof. GL Peiris says that all universities across the Sri Lanka are expected to open on May 10. Until then, lectures will be conducted online, he said. “We review the situation daily” minister said. Earlier officials planned to reopen all universities in Sri Lanka on April 19th and later postponed to April 27. But due to sudden coronavirus outbreak in the country, health officials again postponed it till May 30th. Meanwhile Minister of Education, Prof. GL Peiris says universities across the country are expected to open on May 10.
