Ceylon Electricity Board CEB says 2-hours power cuts island-wide today February 22 due to non availability of fuel for power plants.
According to the PUCSL Chairman Janaka Ratnayake, 2 hours power cut to impose between 4.30pm to 10.30 pm for schedule group A,B,C and 3 hours for other groups. At the moment several power plants have shut down due to lack of fuel. Due to the this 540 MW of power loosing to the national grid.

With the prevailing dry weather conditions, it will not be possible to generate hydro power electricity in its maximum capacity for a long time. Water levels of several hydro power reservoirs are decreasing.

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka urges consumers and institutions to use electricity sparingly during this period and support the Ceylon Electricity Board and PUCSL.

Switch off air-conditioners wherever and whenever possible
Keep your AC temperature at moderate level (24 – 27 °C), Instead of 18 °C
Switch off street lights
Switch off signboards hoarding.
Use private generators where they are available
Change to LED bulbs
Use table fans instead of ceiling fans
Use energy saving appliances or devices
Switch off all electrical outlets when not in use
