The Conservator General of Forests refuted media reports implying that Sri Lanka’s forest cover has reduced to 16%. He said the Forest Department is updating forest maps & no such forest destruction was observed.

According to the 2020 reports, the total forest cover of Sri Lanka is 29.2% of the total land area at present. It was around 44% in 1950s.
