More than 10,000 Sri Lankans have now died due to Covid-19, according to official figures. Sri Lanka is now the 52nd country to cross the 10,000 deaths mark.

Sri Lanka’s COVID death toll passed the 10,000 mark with 189 COVID19 deaths confirmed. According to the Director General of Health Services these deaths had taken place September 4 and the total number of fatalities in Sri Lanka increased to 10,1405. 

Among the dead majority were males. Out of the 10,140 deaths, over 5700 are male while over 4400 are females.

The majority of the deaths are of the people in the over 60 years of age group. 76.04% percent deaths are above age 60 years group. 22.84 percent are 30-59 and 1.12% are below the age of 30.

August had already amounted to Sri Lanka’s worst month of the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of deaths as Sri Lanka had officially passed 4700 total deaths during the month.
