According to COVID19 Vaccine rollout tracking, Sri Lanka reaches 4 million milestone for Covid-19 vaccination drive. Over 4 million (4,009,740) first doses of the coronavirus vaccines have been administered in Sri Lanka. According to the Government Information Department data, Sri Lanka reached 1 million milestone for Covid-19 vaccinations program on May 12, reached 2 million milestone on June 8 and reached 3 million milestone on July 5th. More than 4 million Sri Lankans had received their first dose of a COVID-19 as at July 12th. The highest number of vaccines per day of 222,010 admininistred on July 8.

Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has put forward a comprehensive mechanism to vaccinate a majority of the
population against COVID-19 virus before September this year.

President has advised the health officials to prioritize people over the age of 60, pregnant women and public sector employees during vaccination rollout. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed the health officials to vaccinate all those over the age of 30 in the Western Province before July 31. So far 60% of this age group in the Colombo District, 47% in Gampaha and 34% in Kalutara have been given the first dose.

January 29, The COVID-19 vaccination drive kicked off in Sri Lanka, a day after India’s gift of 5 lakh doses of Covishield vaccine reached the island nation. The drive was began at the Army Hospital in Narahenpita as frontline workers fighting COVID-19 were vaccinated with the ‘Made in India’ Covishield vaccine. Government said they will use ‘ITUKAMA’ COVID-19 Healthcare Fund balance Rs. 1360 Million for the vaccine roll-out.
