Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage says Registrar of Pesticides Dr. J.A Sumith has been removed from the post and steps will be taken to revoke the gazette lifting the ban on sale and use of Glyphosate & serveral other agro chemicals that was issued last night.
Meanwhile Registrar of Pesticides Dr. J.A Sumith says the Minister cannot remove him from the post and he has issued Gazette lifting the ban on Glyphosate & several other agro chemicals following the approval from the Legal draftsman.
On November 22, an Extraordinary Gazette notification has been issued by the Registrar of Pesticides revoking the Gazette issued in 2014 prohibiting the use and sale of several pesticides including Glyphosate.
Issued by the Registrar of Pesticides Dr. J. A. Sumith and dated November 01, it revokes the previous Gazette “in the interest of the public and on the advice of the Pesticide Technical and Advisory Committee.”
