Organized by the Public Outreach Division of the Department of Communication of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, this program was held recently at the R/ Convent of The Child Jesus National School, Ratnapura Auditorium with the aim of opening the practical space to the school community regarding democracy, responsibility and accountability as well as the importance of voting to school students.

According to the traditions of Parliament, the Speaker was elected at the inaugural session followed by the official oaths and affirmation of the Ministers and Members of Parliament. A parliamentary debate was also held, presenting facts related to each subject area.

The Director Legislative Services / Director Communication (Acting) of the Parliament of Sri Lanka H.E. Janakantha Silva gave a special address and the Director Administration of the Parliament Ms. G. Thachchanarani provided a comprehensive understanding on the representation of Members of Parliament on behalf of the public.

Student representatives, teachers and parents of six schools in the Ratnapura Education Zone also participated in this event. Books containing information about parliamentary proceedings were also distributed to the libraries of each school.
