The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing, China hosted a successful Tea and Tourism Promotion networking event at the Chancery premises on 29 January 2024. The event was attended by around 50 companies representing  Ceylon Tea importers, tour operators, and the media. 

The objective of the event was to encourage Chinese travelers to visit Sri Lanka through the free visa policy introduced by Sri Lanka as a measure to boost tourist arrivals from the main sourcing destinations. Providing an exotic tourism experience to the attendees, a Ceylon tea demonstration was held at the same time. Seven geographical tea brands were also introduced highlighting the differences of each brand.

Addressing the gathering, Charge d’ Affairs K.K. Yoganaadan spoke of the contribution that Ceylon tea and tourism have made to the economy of Sri Lanka. He  requested the active participation of outbound tour companies and the media to create awareness on Sri Lanka among the Chinese public. The event also provided an opportunity to announce the new branding of Sri Lanka tourism “You will come back for more”.

Detailed presentations on Ceylon tea and Tourism were made, together with attractive videos highlighting Sri Lanka as an ideal destination for tourism and premium tea. A Question & Answer session was also conducted to address queries from the audience.

The networking event showcased Sri Lanka as an island with unique characteristics “authenticity, compactness and diversity”. The guests were served with Ceylon Tea along with other Sri Lankan beverages and refreshments.
