Update – More than 1.8 million (1.8) first doses of the coronavirus vaccines have been administered in Sri Lanka, according to the Government Information. The highest number of vaccines per day of 84,565 admininistred on May 31. Sri Lanka reaches 1.5 million milestone for Covid-19 vaccinations program as at May 30. More than 1 million Sri Lankans had received their first dose of a COVID-19 as at May 12th.

The first dose of Sinopharm vaccine will be administered in Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, Kegalle, Trincomalee, Hambantota, Badulla, Anuradhapura, Puttalam, Ampara, Batticaloa, Monaragala and Polonnaruwa districts from June 8. President has advised the health officials to prioritize people over the age of 60, pregnant women and public sector employees during vaccination rollout.

Sri Lanka received 500,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine free of charge from India and later government purchased another 500,000 vaccines. Sri Lanka received another consignment of 265,000 vaccine doses under COVAX facility. Accordingly, Sri Lanka received a total of 1,265,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka received a donation of 600,000 doses of Chinese Sinopharm vaccine and later received another 600,000.

Sri Lanka received 15,000 Russia’s Sputnik vaccines Under the first phase and later received another 50,000.
